Chad Freeman Excited About Championship Win; Eyeing World Title

By KOTC Staff

Chad Freeman continued his winning ways in impressive fashion last month at King of the Cage Canada’s “Brawl in the Mall 4” event, by stopping fellow vet Troy Sorensen in the first round to become the promotion’s new Canadian lightweight champ. The victory extended the 33 year-old-fighter’s winning streak to four and served further notice to the MMA world that Freeman is on the rise.

“I feel great about my performance,” said the Kamloops resident about his thirty second stoppage win over Sorensen. “I went out there ready for anything that came to me. Went out head hunting and wanted the KO.”

Not only has Freeman won four straight, but the De La O Jiu Jitsu purple belt hasn’t left the first round during the streak, scoring three submission wins before this most recent TKO. Due to his success, Freeman has apparently set his sights on MMA’s international stage, and is eyeing more championship gold.

“It feels great to be the KOTC champ but it’s just the beginning,” said Freeman, who predicted to KOTC Canada last month that his March 18th bout with Sorensen would end in the opening round. “”I’m hoping to get a shot at the world title next.”

“I would like to fight the best out there and I feel the KOTC American champ or World champ would be next for me.”

Freeman’s latest win comes just weeks removed from opening his own gym in Kamloops, adding the KOTC Canadian lightweight title to the Branded MMA fight team's growing resume.

“”My students were very happy for me and can’t wait to see the fight on pay-per-view.”

Up next for KOTC Canada is the “Mile Zero” card, which will take place April 29th, at the EnCana Centre in Dawson Creek. The event will be headlined by a welterweight bout between KOTC Canadian champion Garett Davis and American vet Gabe Rivas.

Some of the other bouts scheduled for the event include Dan Severn vs. Ryan Fortin, Kris Miskenack vs. Dan Shenk, Marco Guerette vs. Jayson Peck and Tim Jeffreys vs. Nick Smith.
